People With Disabilities
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) gives a broad definition of disability. The definition includes:
Individuals with a physical or mental impairment that affects one or more life activities such as walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, or working.
Individuals regarded as having such an impairment.
Individuals with a past record of having such an impairment, such as former cancer patients or someone misclassified as developmentally disabled.
The Aberdeen Area Career Planning Center looks to this definition and works very closely with the Department of Rehabilitation Services.
Many assistance programs are available to clients with disabilities. Individuals may meet with a Career Counselor to explore options.
